GEAR FACTORY
As far as I can remember the first camera I ever laid my hands on was a Pocket Instamatic camera
(110 format) with a cube flash back in the early 80s. That or a Tomy Snappy Shot which instantly printed a Polaroid-esque picture...okay so it was a toy. As someone who is interested in technology, I was very curious with the Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera and what it can offer me. My first experience with an interchangeable lens camera started with a Canon EOS 500N SLR. I had a very brief fling with one of the earlier Canon Rebel dSLRs. While I did love the dSLR, I was turned off by the size and the gear I had to lug it around with. Fortunately I heard of the m4/3 or micro Four-Thirds system. Initially I was eyeing the Panasonic Lumix but after some research, I gravitated towards the Olympus PEN series - the E-PL2 in particular. Time and technology moved on and the E-P3 and E-M5 came out. I never really cared about the E-M5 when it first came out as I think I would never need a camera like it. I was prepared to purchase the E-P3 until out of curiosity I asked other Olympus owners on their thoughts comparing the E-P3 and E-M5. Needless to say I ended up with a pre-loved E-M5, which in turn rekindled my passion for photography. My present gear is a silver Olympus OM-D E-M5 m4/3 camera. This camera is partly the reason why The Lazy Photographer was started. Compared to dSLRs, the E-M5 looks like a toy (well it actually does look like the Decepticon reconnaissance robot - Reflector). Don't let the size fool you though, it can take on dSLRs and come on top! Currently, the camera is on "stock mode" - lens is the 12-50mm kit lens and FL-LM2 clip-on flash. My E-M5 sports a JB Camera Designs grip, a uWinka lens hood, and a custom strap system from EDC & Paracord Creations. On most days when I bring the camera around, I use a 1st gen Crumpler 4MillionDollarHome (4M$H) to lug it. |
